Siddhesh Zadey (2021-06-26). [Correspondence] India's problem of data and deaths. thelancet.com India felt the wrath of the pandemic during the second COVID-19 wave. Although multiple immediate socio ≠political factors, which were pointed out by the Editors,1 are to be blamed for the catastrophe, there is a distal yet chronic cause for India's problems: the data crisis. Except for a few state-led efforts, India still does not have an official, publicly available, nationwide, high-resolution (at the city or village level) epidemiological and health capacity data library on COVID-19. Such data would have helped to identify the potential crisis of oxygen supply and other resources, in turn averting deaths.

Margo Greenwood (2021-06-26). [Perspectives] An open invitation to address anti-Indigenous systemic racism. thelancet.com I am always surprised when a health-care practitioner says, "I don't need to take cultural safety training, I am not racist, and besides I took all that in my professional training". Such statements are puzzling for me. I have not seen meaningful improvements in the health status or experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples or a reduction in complaints of anti-Indigenous racism in the health-care system. In fact, the enduring impacts of colonialism in Canada have yet to be adequately addressed.
